ISLAMABAD - Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Saud al Faisal will be visiting Pakistan on Jan 6th on a two-day visit who many believed would be carrying a special message to Prime Minister from the House of Saud.
Although Pakistani officials and diplomatic sources do not see any link between visit of Saudi Foreign Minister and treason case of former military ruler General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf, there is general perception in the capital city that one of purposes of Prince Saud al Faisal’s visit is to discuss the fate of Pervez Musharraf.
According to Foreign Ministry sources the Saudi Foreign Minister will hold in-depth talks with Pakistan leadership including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, President Mamnoon Hussain and Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
Dispelling the impression that Prince Saud al Faisal was visiting Pakistan regarding the fate of former ruler, sources in Foreign Office said that his visit is in the backdrop of his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in November 2013.
He will discuss ways to further expanding Pak-Saudi ties and enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Also the Saudi Foreign Minister will be discussing developments in Afghanistan and regional situation including post-foreign troops withdrawal from that country.
It is also expected that both the sides will review the suspended Afghan Taliban-US dialogue process for Afghan reconciliation.
The sources further said that proposed government-TTP talks would also come under discussion during the meetings. The meeting will be the first high-level contact between the two countries since the PML-N govt came to power following May 11 general elections.
