PMA concerned at influenza outbreak
Expressing concerns over influenza outbreak in Multan and parts of the province, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has urged the government to take steps to check spreading of viral disease. As many as 12 people have so far lost life to influenza. Fever, sore throat, flu, headache, body ache, cough and upper respiratory tract infection are the symptoms of the disease. If not treated properly, this can lead to lower tract infection, laryngitis, bronchitis, lungs infection and pneumonia, which could become fatal. Influenza is a viral disease and it could spread from one person to other. PMA urged public to take healthy and balanced diet, 7-8 hours sleep, plenty of water, use tissue papers to clean nose. The medics body stressed the need of avoiding hug or hand shake. “Do not share glass, plate, cup, towel, mobile if suffering from cold or flu”, it stated. PMA suggested the government to launch massive public awareness campaign in this regard. Patients suffering from influenza should be kept in isolation wards. PMA reiterates that virology labs should be established at least at all provincial capitals for early diagnosis of viral diseases. –Staff Reporter
