Teen worker dies in Emporium Mall ceiling fall

A teen worker died during repair work at the Emporium shopping mall in Johar Town, rescuers said on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as 19-year-old Muhammad Usman, an electrician.  The boy was trying to repair electric wires on the 4th floor when the ceiling collapsed on him, he sustained severe electric shocks and fell on second floor from the top. According to one of the supervisors, the boy sustained multiple head injuries and died on the spot. The body was shifted to hospital and an investigation was under way. –Staff Reporter

 Child killed on road

A two-year-old girl died and her parents wounded critically when a truck bumped into their motorcycle near Bahria Orchards in Raiwind area.  Rescue workers said the child identified as Noor Fatima died on the spot. Her father and mother were shifted to a hospital with multiple injuries. An eyewitness told the police that the road mishap took place because of over speeding. The truck driver managed to escape from the scene. The police were investigating the incident. –Staff Reporter

 Man ends life

A 30-year-old man was found hanged at a house in Wafaqi Colony on early Tuesday, police said. The body was shifted to the morgue. The deceased was identified as Abu Bakar, father of eight children. His family told the police that Abu Bakar was suffering from financial constraints for the last couple of months. The police were investigating the death. –Staff Reporter

 Three ‘mules’ caught at airport

A Nigerian woman was among three people who were arrested by Anti-Narcotics Force at the Lahore airport on Tuesday.  Officials said the suspects were trying to smuggle narcotics to Nigeria and Saudi Arabia when they were arrested red-handed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport. The ANF seized narcotics worth Rs 50 million from their possession. According to officials, Shaukat Abbas and his wife Kalsoom Fatima were arrested when they tried to smuggle narcotics to Saudi Arabia on a Shaheen airlines flight. The drugs were stashed inside a washing powder bag. The couple was traveling to Saudi Arabia on Umrah visit when they were arrested by ANF, an official said. The suspects were shifted to an unknown facility for further interrogation.  In another incident, ANF personal arrested a Nigerian woman and seized huge quantity of heroin from her possession. The woman tried to smuggle the heroin to Doha on a Qatar airlines flight but she was arrested red handed at the airport. Further investigation was underway. –Staff Reporter

 Medical store swept

Two gunmen forced their entry into a medical store in the limits of Faisal Town police on Tuesday afternoon and fled after snatching Rs 800,000 and other valuables. The police reached the crime scene when the robbers had escape.  The daylight robbery took place on a busy road and the bandits fled on their motorcycle without facing any resistance. The police registered a shop-robbery case against unknown gunmen and launched the investigation with no arrest made yet. –Staff Reporter
