Two nabbed in media campaign funds scam

KARACHI - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) apprehended two suspects including a deputy director of Information Department, Sindh over media campaign funds scam.

The NAB arrested two accused namely Inam Akbar and Yousuf Kabooro from Islamabad, in media campaign funds scam, after the Supreme Court recalled their ad interim bail. Inam Akbar is owner of media advertising company and Yousuf Kabooro was serving as Deputy Director Information Department Government of Sindh. They were wanted in reference filed against 17 accused persons and charged for embezzlement of Rs 3.2 billion. 12 accused persons were arrested on Oct 23, 2017 after their bails were recalled from High Court of Sindh, one accused (Fawad Mehmood) has expired, one Aneeta Baloch Officer of Information department is still absconding and one accused Riaz Munir got bail confirmed from Sindh High Court. Inam Akbar has been charged of embezzlement of Rs 2.2 billion out of total Rs 3.2 billion. On the other side, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sindh police also claimed to have arrested a notorious gangster. He was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off in Pak Colony area. The suspect arrested was identified as Najeeb aka Bao, who according to SIU police was associated with the Jasim Golden group of Lyari gangsters.

SIU officials said that the accused arrested had joined the Jasim Golden group of gangsters in 2010 and since then he was involved in various cases of target killings, kidnapping and extortion and robberies. The police also claim to have recovered arms and ammunitions from his possession. The cases against him were registered while further investigation was underway.

6 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Sindh Rangers claimed to have arrested at least six more suspects during ongoing targeted raids in parts of a metropolis. According to Rangers spokesperson, three suspected criminals were arrested during targeted raids conducted in Garden and Memon Goth areas. The suspects arrested were identified as Sohail Saeed Siddiqui alias Sohail Tanki, Abdul Qadir and Faris. The spokesperson said that the suspects arrested were involved in various cases of target killings and extortion.

Separately, three more suspects were arrested during targeted raids conducted in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Awami Colony localities. The suspects arrested were identified as Ismail aka Lala, Saddam Hussain and Abdullah. “The suspects arrested were involved in drug peddling while the Rangers troops also recovered at least three kilogrammes of heroin from their possession, spokesperson added.

Rangers spokesperson said that the suspects arrested were later handed over to the police and Anti-Narcotics Force.
