NOORPUR THAL - A workshop on 'Punjab Education and English Language Initiative (PEELI)' was held with the participation of the headmasters and headmistresses of the government primary schools here on Saturday.

Renowned educationist Maria Zulfiqar Awan was the resource person who extended her knowledge to the trainees. During the training workshop, the head teachers were given the opportunity to share their skills and experiences. On the occasion, Maria Awan highlighted the objectives of the training workshop, and said that it was need of the hour to take steps to uplift the standards of education in the government schools.

She said that the objective of the British Council programme was to introduce quality education strategies that blend academic concept with the classroom application. "It will certainly strengthen the communication skills of the schoolteachers so that they can profoundly achieve the objectives of their teaching," she said.

Government Custer Training and Support Centre Malik Liaqat Ali said that Pakistan needs to increase its literacy rate which is very low to compete with the world. He urged the teaching community to enhance their professional abilities. Teachers can revolutionise a society by bringing about a positive and constructive change in the minds of students, he said. He emphasised that the participants take maximum benefit from the training workshop. Head teachers Malik Umar Farooq Jasra, Malik Khursheed Hattar, Sajjad Hussain Bhatti, Malik Abdul Wahid Jasra and Sheikh Zainul Abidin also spoke on the occasion.
