The news that road tax of the vehicles registered at Rawalpindi has been enhanced by three times has hit us like a bolt from the blue. This is a very cruel act of the decision-makers. The great irony is that the people of Rawalpindi are relatively poorer than those living in Islamabad. The tax should have been enhanced on the VVIPs of the posh Islamabad but it has been levied on people of Rawalpindi. The Punjab government is hell bent upon fleecing the poor people within its precincts. -QAISER ALI RAZA, Islamabad, via e-mail, June 30.
