ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Joint Secretary Mustansar Feroz has disowned a media report in which he is quoted levelling allegation against Hameedul Haq, the former Pakistan Davis cupper and captain, regarding coaching choice. "I am not aware of any story, neither I stated nor written anything against you," Mustansar said in his email sent to Hameed. He further clarified that he had nothing to do with the story and had a great respect for Hameed, as a true national champion adding: "I can never think about even saying anything against Hameed." After all, the situation is cleared as to whom to be blamed for the entire saga; on which behest Hameed's name was put in controversy. If people in the PTF continue treating past legends like this just because they are afraid of hearing the truth then there will be no one left to play or even think of playing for the country again. Hameed in an exclusive talk with The Nation has appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to look into the matter and award the culprit exemplary punishment. Being the PTF Patron-In-Chief, Asif Ali Zardari is supposed to take action against the so-called tennis lovers and provide justice to one of the favourite sons of the soil, who has spent his entire life in playing tennis for the country at national and international levels. Hameed has already won a lot of tournaments at home and abroad and he is still playing at the age of 50, and is determined to perform unabatedly and is still Pakistan No 6 shows his commitment and hunger for the game. Kaleem Imam as President of Pakistan Tennis Federation has to give this matter a serious thought and point out the black sheep in to their ranks, it will be far better if the PTF President resolve this issue himself as this step of his will some how repair his disputed and much talked about reputation. Players like Hameedul Haq deserve to be given more respect but the PTF continues to bring bad name to not only itself but to others too. If Mustansar has not given that statement then who is the real culprit and on whose behest he has dared to write such indecent and irresponsible remarks against Hameed. Any further delay on the part of Kaleem Imam in this matter will further raise questions about his role in this episode. Now it depends on PTF president as to which way he wants to take the federation. His future actions will decide the fate of tennis and the federation. MOHSIN ALI
