In occupied Kashmir, veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has urged the United Nations to implement its resolutions on Kashmir. Syed Ali Gilani addressing a public gathering in Tral while reacting to the UN General Secretary, Ban Ki-Moons recent statement on Kashmir, said that instead of issuing mere statements the World Body should take concrete steps to impress upon India for resolving the Kashmir dispute. The veteran Hurriyet leader welcomed the assertion of the Organization of Islamic Conference regarding the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people and said that the 57 Muslim countries should utilize all their resources to pressurise India to settle the lingering dispute. He pointed out that the Indian army had occupied 65 Lakh Kanals of land in the occupied territory and if the trend continued the day was not far when the Kashmiris would be forced to migrate from their own land like the people of Palestine. India is looting our natural resources like water and forest and luring gullible Kashmiris in its trap in the name of developmental works, he said. Rejecting Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs statements about zero tolerance to human rights abuses in the occupied territory, Syed Ali Gilani said that Indian forces were subjecting the Kashmiris to oppression and the Kashmiri youth and leaders were languishing in jails in inhumane conditions. On one hand, Indian forces have unleashed a reign of terror on ordinary civilians, while on the other hand, New Delhi is using cultural aggression to strengthen its occupation of Kashmir. We have to fight on both fronts, Gilani added.
