ISLAMABAD - General Secretary Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation Ijaz-ur-Rehman, who has brought revolution in the sport in Pakistan, said Saturday that the Pakistan Sports Board was not ready to give the federations its due rights. Talking to The Nation, he said they not only took this game to each and every corner of the country but also got international recognition. He said they were given affiliation by World Tenpin Bowling, Federation of International Qualifiers, Commonwealth and Asian Bowling Federation however he seemed disappointed to say that PSB was not ready to give due rights to the federation. He added that for the last seven years it had been using delaying tactics. He said the Director General Syed Amir Hamza Gilani failed to fulfil his commitments adding that the PSB was denying the federation its right of affiliation. When a sport governing body uses such cheap tactics how one can expect to give already declining standard of sport a boost, he maintained. He said that almost 120 countries of the world recognised Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation but in Pakistan no one was ready to listen to them. "We are getting fed up with this situation as the players are being annoyed with each passing day," he said. Ijaz said: "I have met the former sports minister Ijaz Jakhrani, who was a real sports lover. He understood our genuine point and gave us the provisional affiliation, but the Sports Board wants to abolish that without any solid reason." He said the main role of sports bodies was to promote the game and help the federations in this regard, but in PSB case everything was different. He observed that the main reason behind the decline of sports is the policies of board. He further said it was hoped after Engr Shaukat Ullah assumed the charge of Sports Ministry that things would change but to the utter disappointment nothing had changed instead matters went from bad to worse. He said Pakistan Tenpin Federation could play an important role in bringing international teams to Pakistan and helping revive international sports. "We have been recognised by all the major units of the world. If Sports Ministry, in general, and Sports Minister, in particular, takes a stand we will bring international teams to our country," he underlined. Ijaz urged the Sports Minister to take serious notice of the situation and order DG PSB to immediately resolve the pending issue of affiliation. He also sought help of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to interfere into the matter and help Tenpin Federation achieve its goal so as to revive international sports in the country. On the one hand, President and Prime Minister stress the promotion of sports and urge the youth to take part in the healthy activities while on the other, different types of hurdles are being posed in the way of promotion of sports, as tactics are being applied to stop youth from taking part in the sporting activities. It is worth mentioning that Tenpin is the first ever sports which was introduced in the world and has since then it is being played in more than 120 countries. But just because of DG, PSB Pakistan is being deprived of being among the list of countries who take part in the event.
