OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Punjab Health Secretary Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan has sought solid recommendations from principals of medical colleges and chief executives of autonomous medical institutions for the promotion of medical education, improvement of hospitals working, modification in service delivery system and to solve the issues of doctors by optimum utilization of available financial as well as human resources. He was presiding over a meeting of principals and chief executives of public sector medical colleges and autonomous medical institutions here on Saturday. He said that governments first priority is to promote medical education by improving the education system of medical colleges and to enhance the confidence of people on public sector hospitals. The Secretary Health further said that each hospital must evolve system for the guidance of the patients coming to the hospital especially in emergency department for saving them from various difficulties. Besides Addl Secretary Health Technical Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Sulehriya, Deputy Secretary Saleha Saeed, all the principals and their representatives attended the meeting. The participants placed various proposals for the provision of best educational facilities in medical colleges and to reduce the work load on the teaching hospitals. They said that by strengthening the primary as well as secondary healthcare system and by providing better health facilities at DHQ and THQ hospitals, the patient load on the tertiary care hospitals could be reduced. They also proposed that filter clinics should also be strengthened so that patient referred the teaching hospitals after screening at lower level and the ordinary issues of health should be solved at local level. The meeting discussed the issues relating to the postgraduate trainee doctors, establishment of quality assurance system in medical institutions, enforcement of technical audit in major hospitals, presence of senior doctors and consultants in the hospitals and the mechanism of attachment of District as well as Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals with the teaching hospitals.
