LAHORE -The Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed the Punjab Government Employees Housing Foundation to impose fine on defaulters of house installments instead of cancelling the allotments.

LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial issued the directives when PGEHF’s counsel said in its reply that they had cancelled allotments of those employees who had not paid their installments within the stipulated time.

The court was hearing the petition moved by various government employees against non allotment of houses to them despite the payment of full amount.

Through their counsels, they submitted it was malafide on the part of the administration of the Punjab Government Employees Housing Foundation and against their basic rights enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan.

The allotment had been cancelled when they had not paid lump-sum arrears at the time of their retirement, the petitioners added.

They pointed out that Punjab Government Employees Housing Foundation administration was also cancelling allotments to widows and orphan children of deceased employees.

They requested the court to suspend the cancellation of allotment of houses by declaring it violation of fundamental rights.

After recording the statements, the court directed the respondents not to take any adverse action against widows and orphans, and deferred hearing for indefinite time.
