LAHORE - The police across Punjab province are ordered to launch crackdown on the elements involved in electricity and gas theft, officials said on Tuesday. The police also directed to carry out joint raids along with the officials of the Wapda and SNGPL in order to ensure strict action against the thieves.

The decision to this effect was taken during the first RPO conference presided over by Inspector General of Police Khan Baig at the central police office (CPO) on Tuesday.

During the conference, officials aid, it has been decided that all the station house officers (SHOs) would not only help the WAPDA and SNGPL identify the electricity and gas theft in their jurisdiction but they would also take strict action as per law against the thieves involved in such practice.

The security strategy for the holy month of Ramazan was also finalized in the meeting. The top police officers decided that foolproof security should be ensured around the religious places, important buildings, trade centers, and leading roads during the holy month. The Punjab IGP also ordered the officers to deploy additional police force, when and where is required, under special circumstances.

The meeting also decided that the lawyers, witnesses and complainants must be provided foolproof security in the courts premises. The IGP Punjab directed all the RPOs and DPOs to implement a security plan in this regard in their respective regions.

The police also announced to revise the black-book involving hardened criminals and the matters of cash-award on the arrest of proclaimed offenders should be solved at the earliest.
