LAHORE - More than 1,500 teaching and non-teaching staff of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Education Wing has not been paid for the past two months, The Nation has learnt.

According to sources, hundreds of teaching and non-teaching staff of five educational institutions of the ETPB including Ayesha Siddiqa Degree College, Railway Station Lahore, Nawaz Sharif High School, Railway Station, Trust Model Public High School, Maulana Ahmad Ali Road, Ravi Road Lahore, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Higher Secondary Girls School and Dr Mateen Fatima Higher Secondary School, Shahdara have not been paid for the past two months.

Also, they said, there were some 89-day contractual employees who were not been given their salaries for the past four months. They said all these teachers were working on contract basis.

“This staff has been promised four times by the last federal government for their regularisation but to no avail,” said sources. They claimed that the staffers were being punished because most of them were hired by former ETPB chairman Syed Asif Hashmi.  The teachers on Tuesday staged a demonstration outside the Lahore Press Club for non payment of their salaries. They were holding placards inscribed with their demands. They urged the federal government and the chief justice of Pakistan to release their salaries. They said their families were suffering but the authorities were not paying heed to their issue.
