Tehreek-e-Istiqlal Central President Rehmat Khan Wardag said that the Supreme Court orders regarding cancellation of out-of-turn promotions of government officers in Karachi must be implemented in letter and spirit.

Talking to The Nation, he said that the step would improve the law and order situation in Karachi. The sorry state of affairs in Karachi was because of corrupt officers who got out of turn promotions and are patronising criminals and extortionists, he added.

Wardag said that the verdict of Supreme Court will certainly be beneficial for the Sindh government and the residents of Karachi. He said that some of the influential persons were trying to pressure the inspector general of police and chief secretary Sindh for retaining these officials. He warned if the Sindh government created any hurdle in implementation of the verdict, a confrontation will start between the judiciary and the Sindh government.

He alleged that for the present target killing and extortion, these corrupt officers were responsible. He said it was need of hour to implement the verdict and all the police officers and administrative officers be appointed on merit to control the worsening situation. He demanded that SC should take further steps for the welfare of the public.
