Labour Union President Tasawar Abbas said that the government had not taken any step to safeguard labourers’ rights and they were facing difficulties to make both ends meet amidst increasing price hike.

He said that laboreurs were part of the society and no political party could win elections without their support. He added that since creation of Pakistan no government had paid any serious attention to resolve their problems. He claimed that during the previous PPP government, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced that he would raise salary of labourers “to the rate of one tola gold”. But after coming to power, he forgot his promise, he said.

He urged the government to take notice of the plight of labourers and raise labourers wages in proportion to increased prices of essential commodities. He also demanded of provision of insurance cover for the labourers.
