PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Shahra Khan Tarakai has made it clear that medical practising licences of doctors will be cancelled if they commit negligence from their duties.

He said there is no room for mistakes or negligence as a minor mistake or negligence on the part of doctors could result in the loss of a precious human life.

He was addressing the teaching staff, professors and heads of different department of the Lady Reading Hospitals Peshawar on Wednesday. He said as minister in-charge his sole aim was to improve the overall healthcare service delivery system of government hospitals to ensure improved heath facilities to public in these hospitals.  He urged upon the senior doctors to play their role in changing the existing healthcare delivery system in hospitals and put their hands together with the government in its efforts to ensure better health services to poor masses.

He asked them to come up with their expert views and suggestions to remove laxities and deficiencies in the existing system of hospitals.  The minister deplored that despite the repeated instructions of the government, dress code was not followed by doctors in hospitals, which is the only differentiating factor between the doctors and patients in hospitals.

He directed the heads of units and professors of department to ensure adherence to dress code, discipline and professional ethics by their subordinates in their respective units and departments. "Doctors community is the most respectable segment of society and the government will not only give them respect but will resolve all their problems as well and in return expect only better performance from them," he maintained.
