Turning back the clock

The decision about time change i.e advancing clocks by one hour to gain more light hours, betrays ignorance of geographic principles. We are placed west of India - half an hour behind Indian standard time. We are west of East Pakistan, one hour behind PST (Eastern). Now from June one, we have been placed east of India, with East Pakistan, in timing. We could have decided on working hours that stretched an hour before the presently observed working hours. That is a novel idea. All we needed was an order that everybody should kick-start the day an hour earlier than normal timings. -BRIG (Retd) M. SHAFI KHAN, Lahore, May 31.
