Al-Qaeda responsible for Pak turmoil: Holbrooke

Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke Wednesday said that the terrorist elements of Al Qaeda and Taliban were bent to overthrow the democratic government of Pakistan, report said. He was addressing a news conference alongside Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, after holding a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari in presidency soon after his arrival. The envoy said the US government was determined to strengthen democratic government of Pakistan, however, he said the terror elements want to destabilize and overthrow Pakistans government, adding that Al-Qaida and Taliban were responsible for the insurgency in Pakistans tribal areas. He said that a team of 15 US doctors would arrive tomorrow in Pakistan for the medical treatment of internally displaced people. Holbrooke appreciated the performance of Pak Army in the ongoing Swat operation, saying that the US would not abandon the people of Pakistan in testing times.
