LAHORE - Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Samina Khalid Ghurki met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Tuesday. Matters regarding relief and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) of Swat, socio-economic development of Punjab and public welfare projects were discussed during the meeting. Talking to the Minister, the Chief Minister said that Punjab government had adopted a comprehensive strategy for the provision of basic facilities to the people and raising their standard of life. He said that special attention was being paid to the uplift of education, health and other sectors of social development. He said that revolutionary projects like Food Support Programme for destitute persons and Sasti Roti Scheme were being implemented successfully and millions of poor families were benefiting. He said that solid measures had been taken for the relief and rehabilitation of the IDPs and free atta and essential items were being sent to the affectees on daily basis. The CM said that in order to provide medical facilities to the affectees staying at relief camps, medical teams and temporary hospitals of Health Department Punjab were functioning round-the-clock. He said that electric fans worth millions of rupees had also been sent for the affectees. He said that people of Punjab were taking active part in the relief and rehabilitation activities for their affected brethren and this process will continue till their complete rehabilitation. CM discusses coming budget Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that such projects should be given priority under next ADP which could leave a positive impact on the life of the common man. He was presiding over a high-level meeting regarding next provincial budget and Annual Development Programme (ADP) formulation here on Tuesday. Chief Secretary Punjab, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance Communication and Works and officers concerned were present. The CM said that those projects should be given priority under the next ADP which could leave a positive impact on the life of the masses, generate maximum job opportunities and help in elimination of poverty and ignorance. He said that far-flung and backward areas should be given preference in this regard. Shahbaz said that increase in non-developmental expenditure would not be tolerated and a committee had already been set up under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Punjab in this regard. The Chairman Planning and Development gave outlines of the proposed ADP for the next year. It may be mentioned that preparation of next provincial budget and ADP formulation is in progress imperiously and meetings are regularly being held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister Punjab.
