ISLAMABAD (Online)-The Punjab government has appointed Aslam Tareen as Chief City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore on Wednesday. According to details, the provincial government has decided to appoint Regional Police Officer (RPO) Rawalpindi Muhammad Aslam Tareen as CCPO Lahore due to intensity of attacks in Lahore. It is pertinent to mention that Pervez Rathore who was working as CCPO Lahore had retired on May 9 and after that the provincial government had appointed the RPO Bahawalpur Ahmed Raza Tahir as CCPO Lahore. However, LHC declared appointment of Lahore Police chief Ahmed Raza Tahir as null and void on the grounds that how a police officer can be given such key police office, who has been held responsible in judicial inquiry of Gojra tragedy. Therefore, the post of CCPO Lahore was lying vacant since May 13, 2010. The sources said that Aslam Tareen was RPO Rawalpindi when the terrorists attacked GHQ and he played a key role in breaking terrorists network in the area. The sources further said that vast reshuffle is expected in Lahore Police Department after the appointment of Aslam Tareen as CCPO Lahore.
