LAHORE - Power distribution companies working under the shadow of PEPCO have launched crackdown against the power pilferers on the directives of the government. On the orders of Lesco chief executive Saleem Akhtar and under the supervision of Xen M&T Mujahid Islam, Xen Operation Shalimar Division Mujahid Saeed Rana, SHO Baghbanpura Malik Mubashar Awan and Operation staff Tuesday night raided two steel factories namely 'Saeed Re-Rolling and 'Saeed Re-rolling at Lakhuder Road and detected the direct power supply to the factories. A case has been registered against the owners namely Javed, Saeed and Pervez. Xen Shalimar Mujahid Saeed Rana told The Nation that so far they had detected the power thefts of Rs 320 millions from this area, adding the crackdown against the power thefts along with the cooperation of police would remain continue in future also. However, sources said that power distribution companies have failed to check the power theft of industrialists who used to steal electricity on a large scale. On the other hands sources said that so far no large-scale crackdown has been launched against the industrialists who are involved in power pilferage. As most of the industrialists have back of the politicians due to which the staff of power distribution companies can not check the theft. PEPCO public relation officer told The Nation that crackdown has been launched with full force and no politicians or industrialists would be spared this time in case of power thefts.
