Cyclone Phet 900km away from Karachi coast

Tropical cyclone 'Phet could hit Karachi in the next 24 hours and according to the Met Department, the cyclone is intensifying 900kms southwest of Karachi and is expected to hit Sindhs coastal areas in the night between Friday and Saturday, a private TV reported. The government has issued a warning to citizens against visiting the seaside to avoid any dangerous occurrence. Phet is now said to be around 800 km from Karachi. The cyclone will bring widespread heavy rains and thunderstorms to the coasts of Karachi and Makran. Heavy rains may case flash flooding in southern Balochistan and Sindh, including Karachi. Three-four metres high tides have developed in the rough sea surrounding coastal areas of Gwadar, Pasni, Jiwani and Ormara. UN has said has issued a red alert to its organizations operating in the country. The representative also said that coastal areas including Karachi, Badin and Thatta have been termed extremely dangerous.
