LAHORE (PPI) - The Pakistan Industrial Association Front (PIAF) while taking a very strong exception to the government for hinting at another 7 per cent electricity hike during ongoing month of June said that any such decision would be causing undue damage to both the trade and industry therefore the government should avoid any such harsh measure. In a statement issued here Wednesday, the Pakistan Industrial Association Front Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that both the trade and industry were already in dire straits because of multiple internal and external challenges and the proposed hike was bound to complicate the situation further. He said that the government should approach the International Monetary Fund for a waiver of the increase in power tariff because the backlash from the masses would be beyond the expectations of those sitting at the helm of affairs. He said that the government should convince the IMF that the time was not opportune for such an increase therefore it would be wiser on the part of the government to avoid taking any such decision in the larger interests of the economy of the country. The Chairman PIAF said that the government should concentrate on reducing transmission and distribution losses or on improving the efficiency instead of blindly acting on the dictates of IMF that has little knowledge about the ground realities in the country.
