It has been observed that all private TV channels in Pakistan avoid mentioning names of other channels in context of any news, good or bad. They would rather refer to another channel as 'a private TV channel, thus leaving their viewers in a bit of a lurch guessing which one was being referred to. Similar is the case with banks which are referred to as 'private banks. This is ridiculous. This reminds one of the days when there was only one TV channel, the sarakari one, which was under some compulsion never to take names of the high and mighty of government, often leaving their viewers in a quandary about the real names of all the individuals, institutions and organisations involved in an incident. It seems our 'free media of today, both print and electronic, is still suffering from the sarkari syndrome of the PTV. -SYED SAYEF HUSSAIN, Karachi, May 31.
