LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the aim of Sasti Roti Scheme is to provide relief to the needy and the government will provide deserving persons their right under the Scheme at all costs and the Scheme is being made transparent and such a system of monitoring is being evolved in which there should be no chance of embezzlement. While giving approval to the changing name of 'Langerkhanas to Sasti Roti Dasterkhawns, he said that well-to-do people should be contacted for increasing the number of Sasti Roti Dast-erkhawns and the government would extend all possible cooperation to them for this noble cause. He was presiding over a high level meeting with regard to the Sasti Roti and mechanical tandoors here on Wednesday. Chairman Sasti Roti Authority MNA Hanif Abbasi, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, MNAs, MPAs, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries Food, Industries, Agriculture, Information, Commissioner Lahore, DCO Lahore, manufacturers of mechanical tandoors and other concerned officers attended the meeting. The CM said the provision of 'Daal Roti to the deprived segments of the society was not less than a worship and the Punjab government had started Sasti Roti scheme for this purpose and lakhs of poor families and white-collar segment were benefiting from this scheme. This welfare project will continue forever and is being made transparent completely by removing flaws from it. The Mohallah committees have been constituted and a comprehensive system of monitoring is also being evolved. Corruption will not be tolerated in any department and a formal movement is continuing for rooting out this menace. If any complaint with regard to supply of atta from flour mills is received, then not only action will be taken against the mill but the department verifying the mill will also not be spared, he said, adding that a system of punishment and reward should be evolved and those districts where the performance of this programme would be outstanding, cash award would be given to the owners of tandoors showing best performance whereas District Coordination Officers of first three districts would also be rewarded and the districts showing excellent performance in this programme would be given more development funds. He said the Terms of Reference (ToRs) were being formulated. He said that Sasti Roti Dasterkhawn programme is a form of worship and it should be run like a movement. The Commissioners and DCOs should play their effective role. The mechanical tandoors should be installed in all districts under Sasti Roti programme and besides medium mechanical tandoors, installation of small tandoors in populated areas should also be considered, he added. The CM constituted a committee comprising Chairman Sasti Roti Authority, Secy Industry and MD Punjab Small Industries Corporation which after reviewing the quality of tandoors, training of tandoor purchasers and after sale-service and other matters, will submit a report in the next meeting. He said people should be made aware of Sasti Roti tandoors through media and a website in Urdu and English should be launched for the details of the programme so that maximum people could know about the tandoors installed in their respective areas for purchasing Sasti Roti from these tandoors. Earlier, Secretary Industry gave a detailed briefing with regard to making Sasti Roti scheme transparent, registration of tandoors, awareness about tandoors among the people and other matters. Chairman Sasti Roti Authority Hanif Abbasi gave briefing about Sasti Roti programme and mechanical tandoors installed throughout the province.
