ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Government of Sindh to compensate adequately the heirs of three students who were gunned down by police in a fake encounter in Hyderabad district. A three-member bench headed by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Ramday heard the human rights case. Abdul Fateh Malik, Additional AG Sindh, and Raja Abdul Ghafoor, Advocate On Record, appeared on court notice. In its written order the apex court said, Additional Advocate General, Sindh, has submitted a report and stated that Government has agreed to pay Rs 100,000 to the heirs of the deceased and Rs 30,000 to the injured. The court said, It is pointed out that as per the facts of the case, police department is allegedly involved in the murder of three teenager students namely, Gul Baig Jagirani, Zameer Hussain Jagirani and Allah Dino Jagirani, therefore, the Government should compensate them adequately. The Additional Advocate General requested the court to grant him some time so that he might take up the matter with the Government because he himself was of the view that amount was not sufficient and was not in accord with notification issued by the Government regarding payment of diyat. The court accepted his request and adjourned the case till 18th June. It is pertinent to mention here that the SC took action on a press clipping published in a local Sindhi newspaper on November 19, 2008, wherein it was reported that three students namely Gul Baig, Zameer Hussain and Allah Dino were gunned down by Khairpur police in an alleged police encounter.
