LAHORE Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said it is the need of the hour to equip the young generation with modern knowledge, and the Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for promotion of Information Technology. Launching of Microsoft Workshop is a good programme for imparting training of Information Technology to the youth generation which will yield far reaching results, he said, while talking on the occasion of launching of a Microsoft Workshop here on Thursday. Minister Education Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, MPA Dr Saeed Elahi, Secretary Higher Education, Chairman Punjab Board of Information Technology, Country Manager of Microsoft and Chairman Punjab Youth Council were also present. The CM said the cooperation of Microsoft with regard to launching of Microsoft Workshop was praiseworthy and under this programme, training workshops would be arranged in nine divisions of the province through which opportunities of training regarding Information Technology, Women Development, Media & Communication and Management would be available to 360 members of Youth Council. He added that programme of holding training workshops for creating awareness among youth about the IT was a commendable step and it would be implemented through Punjab Youth Council. Chairman Punjab Youth Council Saif Hameed informed that on the direction of the CM, the Council had been set up for including the youth in the development process of the province, which was working for the improvement of various sectors. He informed that the Council members took active part in the flood relief activities and now it was also taking part in the process of verification of particulars in the Aashiyana Housing Scheme. He disclosed that Microsoft had made largest funding for Microsoft Workshops in the region so far.
