IUB college accreditation not cancelled

BAHAWALPUR
The College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Principal, Islamia University of Bahawalpur has clarified that the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council has not canceled the accreditation of the college.
The college is already accredited with the Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council; only the accreditation of 40 students of 9th semester is due in the next semester, said Principal Dr Zahid Abbas on behalf of the university.
“The council has already scheduled its team’s visit to IUB for accreditation of the abovementioned students. The college fulfills all requirements pointed out by PVMC, which include purchase of equipment worth Rs50 million,” he said. “Since the arrival of Dr Qaiser Mushtaq as vice chancellor five months ago, significant measures have been taken for development and up-gradation of the college.”
The university management recently released Rs15 million on the directive of the vice chancellor for the purchase of x-ray and anesthesia machines and establishing a modern diagnostic lab, he said. The university has already spent Rs10 million for construction of buildings of the college, cattle farm and a dispensary, he added.
The college principal further added that the College has a faculty of 34 teachers out of which 20 are PhDs. The vice chancellor has directed to give a chance to every faculty member to apply for higher grades on tenure track system without any advertisement. Currently, he said, 317 students are enrolled and the college has a student-teacher ratio of 1:9 which is in fact better than the approved 1:10 ratio of PVMC.
The principal has contradicted news of any cancelation of accreditation, and said that the vice chancellor is holding regular meetings with the three deans particularly with Dean Faculty of Sciences, and the college principal to resolve a number of matters leading to permanent accreditation of the college.
Some miscreants have misled the media for their vested interests and the news item published in a section of the media on May 31, 2015 in this regard was incorrect. The vice chancellor assured parents and students not to give ears to such false propaganda. He further said that the college is a unique institution which is not only providing veterinary education in this region but also catering to the needs of the livestock of Cholistan.
