ISLAMABAD - NADRA yesterday saw a major reshuffle as 16 out of 26 positions of its DGs were abolished in a move to ensure good governance in the authority.

The interior minister had decided to abolish many posts of DGs as an administrative measure after Pakistani CNIC was found from Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour. 

Out of 26 DGs, 21 were posted in the headquarters but now only DG Operations, DG Projects, DG Administration, DG Finance and Accounts and DG Registration will work in the headquarters.

Similarly, the number of DGs in field operations has been reduced to five – one each for all the four provinces and another for Islamabad, AJK and Gilgit–Baltistan.

According to details, Tahir Akram serving as DG Administration has been posted as head (GM) Legal. DG Softaware House Muzaffar Ali’s position has also been re-designated and he will work as GM Dataware House besides holding additional charge of DG Administration.

DG Projects Zulfiqar Ahmad has been appointed as GM Customer Care. DG Alien Registration Lt Col (retd) Muhammad Talha Saeed has been posted as DG Balochistan. Lt Col ® Mahmood Iqbal has been appointed as GM Civil Registration. He will also hold additional charge of head of Alien Registration.

Mir Ajam Khan Durrani, acting DG at regional head office Quetta, has been appointed as head of National Re-verification Programme.  DG Technology Zulfiqar Ali has been posted as DG Projects.

Lt Col ® Sheikh Jafer Iqbal, Director Council, has been appointed as Director Coordination. Sohasil Nasim, DG Technology and Development, has been appointed as GM Research. He will also hold additional charge of GM Technology.

A policy directive issued on Thursday seeking immediate implementation says all contracts of DGs, Directors, and officers in grades O-8 and T-8 and above will not be renewed beyond their contract expiry date.  No loan requests will be entertained beyond the approved limits of loan policy.

Under the directive, the use of any official vehicle beyond the one monetized will be considered misconduct and liable to disciplinary proceedings.

Meanwhile, NADRA has also reduced fee for smart computerized national identity card to Rs400 from Rs1500 on the directions of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said the fee for urgent and executive categories would be Rs800 and Rs1600 respectively. 

The decision has been made to encourage people to use smart card having 36 security features.
