Islamabad - A local court yesterday granted interim bail to PML-N MNA Sheikh Rohail Asghar in a hit-and-run incident.

An additional district and sessions judge Muhammad Atta Rabbani conducted the bail plea of Sheikh Rohail and granted him interim bail against the surety bonds worth of Rs50,000.

The PML-N MNA approached the court seeking bail after a local court issued his arrest warrants on May 30 in a case in which the accused were to be indicted but the court issued their arrest warrants for not appearing before the court.

In his bail plea, Sheikh’s counsel adopted before the court that sections under which a case had been registered against his client are bailable offences. Therefore, he requested the court to accept his bail application. After hearing the arguments, the court granted Sheikh Rohail interim bail and deferred the hearing for further proceedings till June 9.

Sheikh Rohail Asghar has been accused of killing a security guard in Islamabad and on the order of a district court judge, the Kohsar police had registered a murder case against PML-N MNA Rohail Asghar after Shaheen Bibi petitioned the court regarding her husband’s death in a hit-and-run incident.

On Feb 1, Additional District and Sessions Judge M Atta Rabbani had ordered the registration of the FIR on an application filed by Shaheen, who said the PML-N stalwart killed her husband Raz Muhammad,  a security guard, in a hit-and-run incident.
