LAHORE - A group of SPs emerged as a strong lobby in the recent reshuffle in police. The two SPs, namely Muhammad Ali Nekokar and Farooq Mazhar, were the driving force in forming the group that has played a key role in the transfers and postings of 12 SPs, and more importantly of SSP Operations Lahore. The dominant group comprised SP Admin Farooq Mazhar, SP Ihsan Younis, Raja Dr Abid, Dr Inam Waheed and Muhammad Ali Nekokar. In order to counter their activities, another group of SPs got its act together. The said group comprised mainly SP Sohail Akhtar Sukhera, Rana Mansoor-ul-Haq and Babar Bakht Qureshi. Reliable sources in police department revealed that posting of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Amjad Javed Salimi was also the outcome of the efforts of the police group being led by Muhammad Ali Nekokar that approached the higher authorities and managed to convince them to appoint DIG Amjad Salimi. The said group gave a tough time to SSP Operations Lahore Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad and was instrumental in getting him transferred. They were the ones who informed the authorities about SSP's political affiliation and argued that DIG Amjad could watch the interest of the present government more effectively than him. A senior police officer told this scribe on conditions of anonymity that the Punjab Governor had given his consent in the favour of SSP Operations Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad. But the police officers of the said group convinced the Inspector General Police Punjab Khawaja Khalid Farooq for the support of DIG Amjad Salimi. On the request of the said police officers, the IGP later convinced the Punjab Governor to replace SSP Operations Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad by DIG Amjad Salimi. The police officer claimed that grouping among the senior police officers had badly affected the performance of the City police, caused demoralisation among good officers and was one reason for the rising crime graph. The police officer claimed that SP Civil Lines Sohail Akhtar Sukhera and SP Saddar Division Rana Mansoor-ul-Haq were made OSDs due to the influence of this group. The group was making efforts to restrain the IGP from posting these officers in the City. Muhammad Ali Nekokar and Ehsan Younis who were told to be very close to the IGP Khawaja Khalid played key role in this regard. Now they are lobbying for the transfer of SP Mujahid Squad Babar Bakht Qureshi who is also thought to be active member of the rival group. Muhammad Ali Nekokar who was working as SP Security Lahore has been transferred and posted as Staff Officer to the IGP Punjab two days back. He got this important post and can give a more tough time to his rivals. special train for raiwind Pakistan Railways has decided to run a special train to accommodate the passengers of Raiwind congregation from Quetta to Raiwind.
