BAHAWALPUR - Former Punjab Chief Minister and PML(N) head Mian Shahbaz Sharif has maintained that it is now high time for the masses to come out of their abodes to seek for justice and fulfilment of their rights if they are keen to make Pakistan a welfare and justice-based state. Addressing a big gathering here Monday afternoon at Dring Stadium Bahawalpur, he flayed the former President, Pervez Musharraf as well as President Asif Ali Zardari and the PCO Judges besides the existing judicial system in the country for the ills currently gripping the country. He began his short address with the famous poem, "Aisay Dastoor ko, Subah-e-Noor ko main nahin manta, main nahin janta". This gesture attracted a big applause from the spirited audience. He asserted that he along with the PML (N) Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif was penalised for their refusal to accept the deal was offered to them with respect to acknowledging the PCO Judges. He said: We preferred to face challenges and hard times rather than compromise on principles, keeping the fact in mind that the ongoing judiciary could never provide justice to the common man. He alleged that former President General (r) Pervez Musharraf, the sitting President Asif Ali Zardari and the PCO judges had undermined the judiciary and had totally spoiled the constitution, just for their vested interests as under the prevailing circumstances nothing could be expected for better. He appealed to the people to join hands with the PML (N) for their better future and justice-based society in the country as our struggle was not for personal interests - it was only to make Pakistan a real welfare state where everyone could be given speedy justice, free medical care and better education. He urged the people to keep themselves ready to show their support on March 12, for the accomplishment of justice - based society and fair judicial system in the country as under the PCO judges it would be hard to get justice as they had killed the justice. He stressed that public support for the lawyers cause was essential to ensure justice in the country as they had faced disqualification only because of their refusal to accept the PCO judges. He assured the gathering that they would never leave public alone to face tough times, and that they would fully resist every attempt to harm Pakistan. He asserted that they would prefer to die rather than to compromise on principles. He hoped that local PML (N) public representatives would not disappoint their voters and the public. He thanked the people and the PML (N) leaders and workers of the country over extending full support. A number of PML (N) leaders, including Ch. Jaffar Iqbal Gujjar, Dost Muhammad Khosa, Arshad Khan Laghari, Mrs. Parveen Masood Bhatti, Mrs. Shiren Akhtar Khan, Ch. Saood Majeed, Mian Baleegh-ur-Rehman, Malik Muhammad Iqbal Chanadr, Ch. Earlier, Mian Shahbaz Sharif addressed the District Bar Association Bahawalpur and assured complete support for the lawyers cause. The local administration had made special security arrangements on the occasion. Heavy police force was deployed in and around the public meeting site while Mian Shahbaz Sharif addressed the gathering from a covered dais. He arrived the site at 4 pm instead of 2 pm.
