The heart-rending news of a baby being delivered in a rickshaw while the poor mother and child were made to wait several hours due to road closure on Presidents visit to Quetta shows callousness of the provincial government. They showed little regard for the lives of this mother and child in the pressure to let the Presidential motorcade pass. The baby had to be delivered in the rickshaw. Medical emergencies ought to be given higher priority than traffic control during the VVIP visits. The police ought to be given standing instructions for treating grave medical emergencies also like the VVIPs that have exception from normal traffic rules, even in high-security motorcade-pass situations. The life of a citizen is no less important than the life of President. -DR M. YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, March 1.
