KARACHI - At least 12 people were killed in the current wave of target killing here on Saturday.
Three men riding a motorbike were gunned down by unknown assailants in Orangi Town within the remits of Iqbal Market police station.
Police said victims including Ali Nawaz Haider, Ali Hussnain Ejaz and Hashim Shah Hussain were riding a motorbike when some unidentified motorcyclists intercepted the motorbike and sprayed bullets near Sabir Chowk.
Resultantly above three victims and a bystander Javaid sustained bullet wounds who were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where victims affiliated with Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen succumbed to their injuries while bystander Javaid admitted with critical wounds. The bodies of the victims were later shifted to the Rizvia Imambargah where enraged people staged protest and suspended commercial and non commercial activities. Police said that the motive behind the murders was current wave of sectarian killing.
In another incident of sectarian killing, a man identified as Ali Dad was shot dead in the remits of Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station. Police said that deceased resident of Manghopir reached North Karachi for some work when gunmen riding a motorbike targeted him near Baba Mor.
In the remits Shah Faisal police station, some gunmen killed a local leader of defunct Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan currently known as Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamat. Police said that Maulana Nadeem Moavia, resident of Shah Faisal Colony, reached a nearby milk shop to buy some milk when gunmen riding a motorbike reached and sprayed bullets. He sustained multiple bullet injuries and died on the way to JPMC.
On the other side, culprits threw some five bullet-riddled tortured bodies in different areas of the City. At least three bodies were found from South Zone Police limits in which two of them were found from the Suparco Road and a body was found within the remits of Maripur police station.
A shot dead body was found from the C-1 area graveyard, Liaquatabad and one body was found at Main University Road within the remits of Aziz Bhatti police station. Police said that the bodies were shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy. One out of five was identified as Ejaz Talha, resident of Old Subzi Mandi area, who was abducted and his dead body was thrown by unknown assailants near Baitul Mukaram Mosque.
Some unidentified gunmen targeted a doctor Haddi Afzal at his clinic located in Qasba Colony within the remits of Pirabad police station. Police said that Dr Haddi was dealing with patients when two armed men barged into the clinic and shot him multiple times. Assailants managed to flee while the victim was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead and handed the body over to the family after autopsy. Police have yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
In another incident of firing, some armed men attacked a bus stand and killed an accountant of bus service within the remits of Quaidabad police station. Assailants managed to flee while the victim was rushed to JPMC where doctors pronounced him dead and handed the body over to the family after autopsy.
Meanwhile, enraged crowed torched a bandit to death near Wireless Gate within the remits of Airport police station. Police said two armed men were looting people passing through the area when residents of the area managed to catch a bandit while his companion managed to flee. Residents of the area tortured him to death before the arrival of the police. The wounded bandit was shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead and rushed the body to morgue after autopsy.
