During a session of the Senate Standing Committee for Cabinet Division, the opposition as well as some government functionaries were seen venting their anger against the PPP for spearheading the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (PIMS) Bill 2013 through which Quaid-i-Azam Post-Graduate Medical College will affiliate with PIMS.
The PPP ought to have stuck with the name of the Founder of the Nation while elevating the college to the status of a university. Since it did not give the impression that other than changing the name of a university as a cosmetic measure to satisfy voters, the party may not have have done enough to otherwise satisfy its supporters. Though both Benazir and her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto fought to the very last ultimately giving their lives and deserve unqualified praise for that, this gesture will cast their legacy into conflict, not elevate their stature. In fact, both the father and the daughter would no doubt have themselves not allowed their followers to go to such extremes. We are because of the identity our founding fathers gave us. And Mohtarma Benazir and ZAB would agree.
