LAHORE – Sports Writers Association of Punjab (SWAP) scored a hard earned 1-0 win over Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) in an exhibition match here at the outer ground of National Stadium on Saturday.

Pakistan hockey team head coach and manager Akhtar Rasool was the chief guest on the occasion and both the teams were introduced to him before the start of the match. The only goal of the match was scored by  Shahzad Malik.

Speaking on the occasion, Akhtar termed the match a very positive activity to keep them in good trim. “By playing hockey, they will be knowing the technical aspects of the game to make their expert opinions balanced,” he said. “We welcome positive criticism on the good or bad performance of the team and we believe that mediamen’s constructive opinion or criticism help us in improving our national team’s performance.”

He said Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) was endeavouring to put hockey at the right track and the present team management was taking every measure to boost the performance of the team by improving skills and techniques of the players. He urged the sports journalists to keep playing hockey and other sports on regular basis to improve their health standards. He accepted the proposal of SJAL to become its hockey patron and said he would provide necessary facilities for arranging hockey matches between the sports journalists.
