LAHORE - Justice Ayesha A Malik of the Lahore High Court Monday sought reply from the Election Commission of Pakistan in a petition challenging nomination papers of PML-N candidate Ameer of Markazi Jamat-e-Ahle Hadit Professor Sajid Mir.
Qazi Hussain Siraj, petitioner, had filed the petition submitting that the commission had accepted Prof Sajid’s papers on PML-N ticket, which was illegal as he had already his party. The petitioner further stated that the accused also did not meet the criteria set by Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
Being Ameer of a party, Sajid Mir cannot submit his nomination papers on the ticket of PML-N, said the petitioner. He said Sajid Mir was also not professor as he did not have PhD degree as per the criteria of the High Education Commission; he had two masters’ degrees, one in English and other in Islamiat subject.
The petitioner further said that the respondent also did not meet the criteria for technocrats provided to contest election of Senate. 25-year experience in particular field was necessary but he did not have the relevant experience also, he said.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the nomination papers of Sajid Mir as illegal and restrain him from contesting election on other party’s ticket. The court will resume hearing on March 3.
