The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) announced support for the PTI-backed independent candidate Ijaz Shah in by-election to NA-137 Nankana here at a public gathering on Monday.

Although there are 10 candidates contesting for the by-election yet former IB chief Brig (r) Ijaz Ahmad Shah has emerged as the strongest candidate after securing support from the PTI and PAT.

PAT Punjab Chief Coordinator Tanveer Azam Sandhu, Vice President Asif Sulehria, District President Rai Iqbal and Zonal Head Riasat Chadhar while addressing a huge gathering of PAT workers declared that the party had not fielded its own candidate, however, party Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri and its core committee had announced full support for Independent candidate Ijaz Shah.

Speaking on the occasion, Ijaz Ahmad Shah expressed gratitude to the PAT leaders for posing their trust and extending support for the victory in the by-election. He vowed to fight for the rights of his electoral college and provide all basic amenities to them at their doorsteps.

Meanwhile, local political pundits claimed that the PAT was a big stakeholder in the by-poll and its announcement of support for Ijaz Shah would have definite impact on result of the election. Arshad Sahi, Mutasaf Sandhu, GQ Alvi and others were also present.
