Police on Sunday foiled an attempt to attack Pakistan Day parade scheduled to be on March 23 and arrested two terrorists from the federal capital.
According to details, Islamabad police have arrested two terrorists from Khana East area, who were planning terrorist activity on March 23 (Pakistan Day), and recovered huge cache of weapons and ammunition from them, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
On a tip-off regarding presence of terrorists in a house at Ghori Town, Koral police team headed by Station House Officer Jamshed Khan raided there after getting search warrant and arrested two persons identified as Sagheer Ahmed and Raja Safeer Akbar.
Police team recovered six Kalashnikovs, one M-4 rifle, three 12 bore rifles, two repeater guns (7mm), two 30-bore pistols, two 9mm pistols, one SMG and 2,834 rounds from there. These weapons were concealed in a cupboard and books and stationery were placed over them. Further investigation is underway from them.
Police have registered a case (FIR number 83) under section 420/468/471 A-O, 13/20/65, and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The weapons have been recovered at a time when the law enforcing and security agencies are at high alert due to Pakistan Day military parade scheduled to be held on March 23 at Parade Ground near Faizabad.  Meanwhile, Islamabad police have arrested 10 outlaws, including two extortionists, from various areas of the city, besides recovering weapons and looted items from their possession, a police spokesman said on Sunday.
According to details, Tarnol police arrested two extortionists Tariq Mehmood and Basit Ali. Aabpara police arrested 2 Afghan nationals Essa Khan and Sami-ullah for illegally entering and staying in Pakistan. Kohsar police arrested Khizar Hayat involved in illegal cylinder gas filling. Bhara Kahu police arrested Tahir Khan and recovered one 30-bore illicit pistol along with ammunition from him. Industrial Area police arrested a thief Abdullah. Sabzi Mandi police arrested an Afghan national Rehmat Khan. Shehzad Town police arrested accused Abdul Malak and recovered one Kalashnikov along with ammunition from him. Cases have been registered against these nabbed persons and further investigation is underway.
Furthermore, Islamabad police arrested 14 suspects during search operation in various areas of the city. Police teams conducted search in the area of Ittefaq Colony, Sector G-13, Nai Abadi Bhara Khau, Shakar Parian and under-construction buildings as well as plazas there. They succeeded to nab 14 suspects who are being investigated further. The SSP Islamabad has said the purpose of this search operation and high vigilance is to ensure foolproof security in the city. He has also appealed to the citizens to remain vigilant and inform police in case of any suspicious activity around them.
