ISLAMABAD - Federal Minister for Housing & Works, Muhammad Akram Khan Durrani, has said that low-cost housing units for low income people under prime minister’s housing scheme would be constructed across the country on fast track basis which would be given to people on easy monthly instalments.

Chairing board of director’s meeting on low cost housing scheme here on Monday, the minister said that sites for construction of these housing units have been identified in the District of Charsadda, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Lahore, Jhelum, Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta and Gwadar.  Akram Durrani directed the concerned authorities to start the process of acquiring land in the relevant districts of the provinces so that work could be started on the scheme without any delay. He said, “Time is very short and we have to proceed very quickly to construct 500,000 housing units as per government’s commitment with the people.

The minister said that all hurdles should be removed in the way for early execution and implementation of the project before the next meeting. The minister directed the board members to complete the project within the tenure of the present government so that the commitment made by the prime minister with the people should be fulfilled. He directed the concerned authorities to complete the process before holding of next meeting of the board which will be held on 19th March, 2015.
