Nadal back in ATP top three

PARIS - Former world No 1 Rafael Nadal climbed back into third place in the latest ATP Rankings thanks to his Argentine Open win, while Novak Djokovic remains on top of the pile. In Buenos Aires on Sunday, the Spanish superstar ended a title drought that stretched all the way back to his ninth French Open title at Roland Garros last June. Japan's Kei Nishikori, 25, rose to a career-best fourth and is just fast 260 ranking points adrift of Nadal. Nishikori leapfrogs Britain's Andy Murray, who suffered a shock defeat in Dubai to teenage sensation Borna Coric of Croatia and drops two places. Top 10 are 1. Novak Djokovic, 2. Roger Federer, 3. Pakistan futsal team grab gold medal

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan futsal team thrashed Sri Lanka 6-0 to win gold medal in the South Asian Soccer Futsal Championship concluded in Nepal. Pakistan remained unbeaten in the entire event as they scored 15 goals in three matches and conceded only two against India. It was a great achievement by Pakistani boys who were featuring in an international event for the very first time and grabbed gold in first go which speaks volume their potential and talent, and if provided with proper facilities, they can earn laurels for the country at international level. Pakistan team could go for draw as well which was enough to secure gold, but they played extremely well and won in great style. Hamza Nusrat was hero of Pakistan team, as he scored three goals, while M Raza scored a brace and Daniyal hit one.–Staff Reporter

Junior Basketball C’ship inaugurated

ISLAMABAD - A grand opening ceremony of the Junior Basketball Championship was held at POF Sports Complex on Monday. The event is being played under the auspices of POF Sports Control Board. POF Sorts Control Board president M Afzal Khan was the chief guest and inaugurated the event by throwing the ball into the net. Office-bearers of basketball federation, and a large number of game lovers were present on the occasion. POF Sports Control Board vice president Col (r) Inam Ullah Khan said that top seven teams of the country including Islamabad, FATA, Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and POF were participating in the championship which would be concluded on March 7. Pakistan ski team practice in Korea

ISLAMABAD - Five-member Pakistan national ski team reached Korea to participate in the 24th Asian Alpine Skiing Championship 2015 and started practice session at the sloops on Monday. Talking to The Nation, head coach Fraz said: “The players are enjoying practice sessions and looking in great shape. Every player has completed practice at the sloop and fit and ready for the contest.” He added more than 25 countries had sent their athletes in the championship. “Indian national champion M Arif is also in the Indian team, who met first time with Pakistani team at Auli ski resort in India in 2011-12, where he lifted gold medal in slalom and giant slalom with a very close margin against Pakistan’s Mir Nawaz Junior.”–Staff Reporter
