TMA erases school to retrieve encroached land

Rawalpindi -  The anti-encroachment cell of Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Gujar Khan has erased the classrooms and boundary wall of Government Girls High School, Hayat Sir Road, while declaring it an illegal construction, sources disclosed to The Nation on Monday.
The act of TMA Gujar Khan AEC has swelled a wave of panic among the parents and students studying there who also agitated against the unprecedented move and demanded of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the issue, sources added.
According to sources, TMA while taking advantage of rain and darkness on Saturday last bulldozed the classrooms and boundary wall of Government Girls High School at Hayat Sir Road. The locals, parents and students protested against the move and sought help of the CM.
On the other hand, Assistant Commissioner Gujar Khan Nadia Pervin Sudhan, while talking to media persons, said that the piece of land was property of TMA. She said even if the school department wanted to get the piece of land transferred to it, it would have to follow proper procedure. “It is indecent to grab the land of other government department by making teachers and students as shield. Moreover, EDO (education) does not approve the modes operandi the school administration is following,” she said.
