ISLAMABAD  - National Highways and Motorway Police have arrested a dacoit, who allegedly belongs to notorious Kalu Gang of criminals, from Gujar Khan. However, four gang members managed to escape from the scene after severely injuring a police officer. As per details, Arshad Mehmood, a road-user, while travelling on the GT Road early Thursday night, complained the NH&MP on helpline that around five culprits travelling in car No RIA-3268 had intercepted him on gunpoint. The complainant added that when he did not stop, the accused opened fire at his vehicle breaking the window glass of his car. The SPO, Nisar Satti, and PO Shehzad Zafar Hashmi rushed to the site and stopped the car of accused near Gujar Khan bus stop. The persons travelling in the car namely Raja Usman, Gul Muhammad, Shakeel Ahmed, Mashkoor and Muhammad Azeem were found drunken and fully armed with latest weapons, added a press release issued by NH&MP. As soon as the alleged criminals stopped their vehicle, they attacked PO Shehzad Zafar Hashmi and SPO Nisar Satti.       Despite sustaining a severe head injury, PO Shehzad Zafar Hashmi successfully overpowered an accused Gul Mohammad. In the meanwhile, an emergency squad of Motorway Police also reached at the spot to help their colleagues. However, Raja Usman, Shakeel Ahmed, Mashkoor and Muhammad Azeem managed to escape the scene by taking advantage of the darkness of night. Later, the injured officer was rushed to the PIMS, Islamabad, and was provided medical aid. The investigations revealed that the culprits were members of a notorious Kalu Gang of Gujar Khan, who were wanted by the local police for alleged involvement in numerous criminal cases and dacoities. The arrested culprit was handed over to local police along with the car, whereas an FIR had been registered against the accused.    The IG NH&MP Muhammad Raffat Pasha visited the PIMS hospital on Friday and enquired about the health of the injured policeman. He also awarded Rs 50,000 to the injured Patrolling Officer Shehzad Zafar Hashmi for his exemplary bravery.
