KARACHI As many as five persons were killed and over a dozen were wounded in violence that erupted on Monday after the killing of senior worker of MQM Farooq Baig here in the city. Some 25 vehicles were also torched in various incidents. Baig was gunned down in Baber Market area of Landhi in the limits of Awami Colony police station. The incident came after a day of mourning observed on Sunday after the killing of former MQM MPA Liaquat Ali Qurash. The MQM warned government to take action against the killing of 100 workers and leaders during the last three months, adding the party would be free in adopting a future line of action. The violence erupted when member of Karachi Tanzime Committee Farooq Baig was shot dead. After the killing of Baig, panic and violence gripped the whole city. Various areas Kharadar, Burns Road, Saddar, Korangi, Orangi, Tariq Road, PIB Colony, Guru Mandir, Martin Road, Jail Road, Garden, Nazimabad, Soldier Bazaar, Punjab Chowrangi, Gizri, New Karachi, Liaquatabad, Federal B Area, New Karachi and many others witnessed severe violence where miscreants started aerial firing and all markets were closed. All business activities were suspended and transport also vanished from the city roads. Unidentified miscreants torched at least 25 vehicles in different parts of the city. The vehicles were burnt at Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Pak Colony, Noor Masjid Korangi, Al-Karam Square, Super Market Liaquatabad, Punjab Chowrangi, New Karachi, Saghir Center, Nazimabad, Sindhi Hotel, Gulshan-e-Shamim, Gizri and Rizvia. The miscreants also tried to torch a private bank but fire tenders reached there and extinguished the fire. Heavy gunfire was also heard in several parts of the metropolis which left five people dead. An unknown man was shot dead in the limits of Ferozabad police station and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) while two persons were killed near Korangi Darul Ullum. Another two Gull Khan and Kamran were killed at Gulshan-e-Maymar and Pak Colony respectively.
