OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE An additional district and sessions judge awarded death sentence to persons and an anti-terrorism court sentenced one convict to death on Monday. Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Amir Muhammad Khan on Monday awarded death sentence to two convicts in ten-year-old case registered with the Baghbanpura Police Station. Muhammad Saleem and Ghulam Nabi had killed two persons Nazir Ahmad and Muhammad Imran over old enmity. The court awarded death sentence along with the imposition of a fine of Rs 515,000 inclusive compensation money each on the convicts. As per court orders the convicts would face further imprisonment in case of nonpayment of the fine. Separately, an anti-terrorism court awarded death sentence to Khurram Butt who in connivance with others had opened fire at Arif Amir alias Tipu Truckanwala in the parking lot of Allama Iqbal International Airport on January 20, 2010. As a result of the bullet injuries, Tipu expired in a hospital after some days. On last Thursday the court had reserved its verdict till May 2 (Monday). On Monday, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 200,000 inclusive compensation money of Rs 100,000 to be given to the heirs to the deceased. As per court orders, the convict would undergo further imprisonment of one year collectively in case of nonpayment of the fine. The convict had killed Arif Amir alias Tipu Truckanwala. The Sarwar Road Police had registered a case against Khurram Butt, Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt, Malik Ahsan and four others on the complaint of Sultan Mahmood under sections 7ATA/ 324/148/149 PPC. Later, section 302 of PPC was also added to the FIR after Tipus death. As Malik Ahsan has sought interim bail from court and Tiffi Butt is at large. And another accused namely Shahbaz is in police custody. Before this, the court had acquitted Khawaja Aqeel alias Gogi Butt under 265-K of CrPC. Furthermore, Malik Ahsan is on his interim bail till May 9, 2011.
