NAB closes inquiries initiated in violation of rules

ISLAMABAD- The Executive Board of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in its meeting held here on Wednesday under the chair of Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari approved closure of inquiries based on audit paras against Officials of GPO District Mianwali and DE Transmission-III Quetta as the same were not routed through the procedures prescribed for such cases where NAB takes cognizance in cases forwarded by Public Accounts Committee or the Auditor General of Pakistan.The Board decided to close the inquiries against the officials of Counter Terrorism Department Pakistan Police and Department of Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Karachi due to lack of incriminating evidence. The case against the official of Revenue Department Lahore Cantonment was referred to the Anti-Corruption Establishment after closing the inquiry in NAB.The Board deferred the investigation against government officials involved in the case of M/s DESCON (Pvt) Limited Pano Aqil Cantonment to strengthen the findings and to seek legal opinion from NAB’s Prosecution Division. The Chairman NAB directed to present in next Executive Board Meeting after ascertaining the exact liability in case of Education and Literacy Department in CIDA Project where the accused persons have offered for voluntary return to settle down their liability.In another case the Board has referred the case relating to an official of Civil Aviation Authority to the Director General NAB (Sindh) to revisit the agreement between McDonald and CAA so that the loss caused to the department could be recovered. The board also directed to initiate a process for approval of the committee under Section 31 (b) of NAO 1999 read with schedule 2 of the ordinance in case of inquiry against an official of National Education Foundation, Govt. of Pakistan where the accused is found guilty of hampering the inquiry / investigation.
