Operation continues amid violent protests

KARACHI - The pitched gunbattles being fought between gangsters and law enforcers have triggered violent protests in the metropolis, especially by the Baloch community.A large number of Baloch residents of Garden and other surrounding areas staged protest at Nishter Road, protesters demanded an end to the operations against Baloch community in Lyari. The protestors said that police failed to arrested or kill criminals while their operation has claimed several innocent lives.The protesters said resident of Lyari are deprived of essential goods as all the shops and businesses have been closed due to the police action.During the protest angry youths burnt tyres and other stuff at Nashter Road, and pelted stones on vehicles, causing massive traffic jam, on M.A Jinnah Road, Garden, Lasbela roundabout, Pak Colony and other link roads. The protestors also shouted slogans against the PPP leadership including Nabeel Gabool and Rafiq Engineer.Later heavy contingent of Police rushed to the spot and high officials of Police tried to disperse the protestors but they resisted, then police started tear gas shelling and aerial fire on the protestors and after half an hour they dispersedSimilarly, other protests witnessed at PIB Colony, Landhi, Murtaza roundabout, Malir, Bunba Goth, Maripur Road and other areas, where large number of Baloch including women and children blocked key roads and burnt tyres causing worst traffic jam ever witnessed.
