ISLAMABAD – Chairman Prime Minister’s Task Fore Faisal Sakhi Butt Wednesday ordered immediate inquiry into the mysterious death of female elephant at Margazar Zoo the other day.

“A probe report should immediately be submitted. Strict action would be taken against the officials whose negligence proved behind animals’ death. We cannot see the animals dying owing to workers’ negligence,” Mr Butt said during his visit to the Zoo.

He said the elephant’s death is heavy loss to the CDA in financial terms as well as its repute as civic body, adding the incident has also made residents deprive of a recreational facility.

 He also directed the authorities concerned to ensure all out facilities for the animals at the Zoo, adding that being in our captivity they were our responsibility.

The Task Fore head also asked the CDA’s environment wing to expedite the development of the Margazar Zoo on modern lines so that animals may be kept in conducive atmosphere. He said the postmortem has been carried out by the team of National Veterinary Labs (NVL), NARC, Islamabad to know the cause of death and CDA administration has assured that further action will be taken in the light of the report.
