KARACHI- An activist and a supporter of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed in a drive-by shooting incident in Orangi Town
area today.
Two unknown motorcyclists opened fire at a car killing two passengers on the spot near Islam Chowk, Orangi Town. Police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the bodies to nearby Qatar Hospital. The deceased were identified as Noman Shah, MQM worker, and Chaudhry Idrees Advocate, a party supporter. Saif Yar Khan, MQM Rabita Committee member, confirmed that both the men belonged to the MQM. He said the MQM men are being targeted systematically.
Meanwhile, police have arrested two extortionists during a raid in Gizri area of the city. According to reports, both the men had sought extortion from a local trader through means of intimidation, said CPLC chief Ahmed Chenoi.
He said that the two men, one of them a watchman of the trader, had sent an extortion slip with a threatening letter in which Rs1 million had been demanded with two bullets. According to the statement of CPLC chief, the accused had warned the trader of consequences if he didn’t pay extortion. Both the departments including police and CPLC carried out a joint raid and arrested the accused who were identified as Ishaq and Bakhtiar.
