Dr Mohammad Faisal, spokesperson of Foreign Office, said on Thursday no deal has been intended between Pakistan and US governments the over the matter ofDr Shakil Afridi.
Dr Faisal said during his weekly press briefing that interior ministry is handling the Dr Shakil Afirdi’s case.
Dr Shakil Afridi had assisted US raid in Abbottabad against Osama bin Laden in May 2011. According to US media Dr Afridi aided CIA operation and provided DNA samples of Osama bin Laden’s family to the intelligence agency.
Leon Panetta and Hillary Clinton, then CIA director and US Secretary of State respectively, had also announced Dr Afridi’s role in locating bin Laden. Later on, Dr Afridi was arrested by Pakistani authorities.
In 2012, he was sentenced to 33 years jail by a tribunal court for his involvement in anti-state activities. But, later on, his sentence was reduced.
Recently, he has been shifted from Peshawar to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi because of the security concerns. According to some media reports, the shifting was related to Afridi's impending release.
